To be loyal is to perform work
Interesting interview with Jonathan Franzen via Guardian Books today. Sarfraz Manzoor (a fine man in desperate need of a new website) manages to elicit some pretty earnest responses about Freedom, friendship and David Foster Wallace, among other things. Also, it's nice to hear Franzen admit the following:
...I don't ever feel like a professional when I sit down to do the work. I feel with each book like I've never written a book before and I have to figure it out.
Even if he is just saying that.
